about

This is NOT a 'Best Of...' or a 'Greatest Hits' - this is a Primer.

If you're new to the prolific world of Grant Sharkey, releasing an album every 6 months, traveling far and wide to far flung stages, then this album is the perfect way to catch up on what's happened so far.

Five and half years of albums (11 in total), 70mins of music from 2013 until the present day - this one list of songs is a good place to start exploring each album and their individual themes.

1/40 - released May 2013 - got off to a strong start with 'I'm Sorry To Hear You're A Racist' and 'The Clown' - both firm fan favourites. Jamie 'Scruff' Thompson on Drums.

2/40: Binge Thinker - released Nov 2013 - 'Feed The Kids' was written about Michael Gove when he was only a threat to children (Education Secretary). Jamies 'Scruff' Thompson on Drums.

3/40: FREE NUGGETS - released May 2014 - is the only album missing from this primer. The reason for that is that it's one 45-minute long song written as a response to people telling Grant to go on X-Factor.

4/40: URSS! - released Nov 2014 - after double surgery on his hands, Grant is thoughtful about what's coming up. 'Borborygmus' is a real word, it means; internal noises produced by gases and matter moving through the digestive system'

5/40: GOON - released May 2015 - was written as a musical about the life cycle of Nigel Farage and other poundshop nationalists. 'Toothless Goon Pt. 1' and 'I'm A Goon' also feature vocals from cast members Colin McAllister, Vix Hobbs, Alex Dunlop and Rob Crichard on drums.

6/40: Ignoramus - released Nov 2015 - Grant sets up his own nation in this live show recorded in a local church hall. 'URSS!' has been around since 4/40 but this version captures the live show a little better.

7/40: HOT LUMPS - released May 2016 - back in early 2016, climate change was really humanities biggest threat. This album was about highlighting it. 'HOT LUMPS' features the voices of nearly a hundred audience members from the winter house show tour and mentions 'President Lump' (little did we know!). 'WATCH OUT!' is a strong live mainstay as a reminder that songs, nor festivals change the world - it's played on a ukulele.

8/40: All The Rage! - released Nov 2016 - in a fit of anger about the Eu Referendum result, Grant was slipped the home address of Rupert Murdoch and decided to publish it in lots of songs. This album contains no swearing, but is one of the darkest to date. 'Uncle Twinklefingers' uses the language of abuse to talk about how the right-wing press have treated the UK.

9/40: RADICAL YOU! (vol. 1) - released May 2017 - is the first part of a training manual/self-help series to ensure you're best equipped to take on the facists on the rise. 'Radical You! (Theme Song)', 'The Power of Fuck' and 'Call That A Master Race?!' sit among huge live songs such as 'Spoons', 'Sayin'/Doin'' and 'Pencils'. As a BONUS TRACK - the digital version of this Primer comes with 'BIOCHEMICLUSTERFUCK' written by Grant and his good friends in FireFarm.

10/40: Trollbadour - released November 2017 - after a snap General Election that nobody one, Grant decided to stay on the road in 'election mode'. The idea was to run in to places that normally don't have the wisdom of live music in their blood, sing songs they'd probably hate and make a quick exit. To do this, Grant needed a more agile, stealthy bass...that bass was The Trollbadour! 'Muslims', 'Genitals' and 'Grow' have been staples on the set lists since this album came out.

11/40: Thoughts & Prayers - released May 2018 - as climate change approaches, it seems like the perfect time to have a geo-political schism. Driven by 'alternative facts', 'fake news' and foreign interference - this album explores some of those things. 'Pubes & Toenails (The Brexit Song)' is a rallying roar to get behind Brexit regardless of how awful it is. 'If I Were Vladimir Putin (The Useful Idiots)' could've been a contender for a World Cup song. 'Emotional Blackmail' was written in response to Sean Kingston's lyrically sickening 'Beautiful Girl).
